Distribution

Whooper Swan   Cygnus cygnus

Occurs almost annually in smaller numbers during the summer. Probably mainly arriving during spring migration in May. These swans seem to be doing fine during the summer, and are most likely leaving the archipelago in the autumn. The latest observation is from mid-September. Arrivals in early spring (March-April) result in great mortality. One successful breeding attempt has been indicated at Bjørnøya​.
