Snowy Owl Bubo scandiacus
Individuals, mainly juveniles, appear annually on the archipelago. The species occurs around the year, but most observations are made in spring and late winter.
Occurs mainly individually, but some observations of two to three individuals in the same area have been made. There is information about pairs being present in potential breeding areas, without any indication of breeding. Years with several observations is often connected to high breeding success / good years with small rodents in the breeding areas in Siberia (Mehlum and Giertz 1998). |
