History
and a perspective for the committees work
The Norwegian Polar Institute has been responsible for collecting faunistic
registrations at Svalbard and Jan Mayen. The norm for LRSK activity in mainland
Norway is done county by county and has never been introduced the same way in
this region.
In
1995 an initiative was taken by Georg Bangjord to actively start collecting and
registering notable bird life at Svalbard. Notable bird life registrations
for 1995 and 1996 are printed in The Norwegian Polar Institutes report series. (See
the institutes report number 99 in 1997 and report number 111 in 1999 for
details.)
For
the years 1997 to 2003 there was not published any reports of notable bird
life in the region and the committee wants to issue a collective report for this
time period.
The
first published Information from the committee reviews the 2004 bird year.
The committee will try to publish information on an annual basis.
